Real hardwood flooring is as it says… real wood! Each panel brings a bespoke grain and can be stained to bring your desired finish to life. Laminate flooring is made from synthetic product and does not offer the same unique finish or traceable origin. Whilst it does look like wood, it cannot be sanded or stained in the same way.
Solid wood flooring is one piece of timber and can be sanded and stained to your desired effect. Engineered wood does have a real wood surface, but is layered over multiple layers of plywood, meaning it cannot be sanded multiple times, often engineered wood is stuck together with chemical-heavy adhesives.

There are a number of ways to fix our hardwood panels, and it’s up to you whether you choose to use screws, nails or glue.
Due to our boards’ wide width, we suggest face fixing the boards using a special screw. As part of our service, we hold a consultation, where we can talk through installing in more detail as well as other methods. For more information, read our full installation guide here.
At Coppice & Crown, we don’t offer an installation service for our products but can recommend a number of seasoned professionals and trusted partners that we know, trust and work with regularly.
We recommend sanding your boards after laying. For our Classic Oak, Ash, and Chestnut flooring, we recommend an industrial floor sander which can be easily hired from a local builder’s merchant. For our Heritage Oak flooring, we recommend a flappy paddle sander to reach the detailed grain of each board, and a small orbital sander for individual parts of the flooring. We don’t recommend sanding the entire floor when it comes to our Heritage Oak.
A fresh layer of stain or varnish will bring a new life to your flooring, but for a full restoration, we do recommend using a sander.

Hardwood floors are not hard to maintain at all. With regular sweeping, gentle cleaning and occasional maintenance, your real hardwood floor will last for years to come. Whether you decide to stain your panels or keep them natural, treat your hardwood flooring as you would any other. Regular vacuuming will keep debris at bay, and mop weekly or as required. Try to avoid oversaturating the floor with too much water.
Cleaning your hardwood floor is as easy as enjoying it. Keep it free of dust and debris by brushing and vacuuming and try to minimise water exposure where possible to keep your finish looking fresh.
For everyday cleaning, we recommend a good old-fashioned horsehair bristle brush; simple yet effective. If possible, use a soft nozzle on your vacuum to avoid causing unwanted scratches.
When mopping, use minimal water and natural cleaning solutions. We recommend using a microfibre mop and running it with the length of the grain.
For spot cleaning, a microfibre cloth and cleaning solution should bring your flooring back to life in no time.

Yes, but not overly so – hardwood flooring does not respond well to high water exposure for long periods of time.
After cleaning, check for any puddles of water. Using a clean, dry microfibre cloth, gently buff and dry your floor to leave a clean shine behind. Always clean up spillages as soon as possible.
You can but try and avoid oversaturating the flooring. First, run your vacuum around to remove any grit or debris which may damage or scratch your floor when cleaning.
Hardwood doesn’t mix well with standing water, so use a damp (never wet) mop, hot water for quick evaporation, and make sure all water is dried properly. Keep an eye on any wet patches as you may need to go over these with a cloth.
Do avoid using harsh chemicals in your cleaning solution as this can potentially strip stains or damage your natural product. Use a specialist hardwood floor cleaner, or a pH-neutral wood floor cleaner for gentle yet effective cleaning to help preserve the natural aging of your real hardwood floor.
If you’re unsure on the safety of your cleaner, try a small patch test first.
Hardwood floors can be steam cleaned but we’d advise against it due to the excess water and moisture exposure. Frequent brushing with a gentle horsehair brush and light mopping when required should be enough to keep your real hardwood floor clean.
Wear and tear are part of life, and we believe they add to your floor’s natural charm. Our floors are crafted to last for generations to come, so we advise embracing the scuffs and scratches as memories. If you’re after a cleaner look, a fresh sand and varnish will bring new life to well-loved flooring. In some cases, you may wish to order replacement boards, so get in touch and we can help.
To avoid scratches, use felt pads under table and chair legs. Heavy furniture should be lifted, never dragged. Rugs not only bring colour and warmth but can help protect your real solid floor too.

Yes you can install underfloor heating. Approximately 75% of our customers fit our flooring over underfloor heating systems, and it’s one of our specialities. We favour this method of constant low-level heating rather than a concentrated radiator intensely heating only one area of the room.

We offer mixed lengths, between 0.9m and 4.5m, and widths between 100mm and 200mm. We do advise mixed widths to achieve depth and character but can produce one size if preferred. We’re one of the only suppliers of very wide boards, often sought after to add extra character to a home or workspace.
Your real wood cladding should be treated after installation. If the right products are used, you shouldn’t have to treat again for another 15-20 years.
