When a home is crafted with true skill and sensitivity to its landscape, the result feels effortless, timeless, and deeply rooted in place. A recent project with Dorset Timber Framing in the heart of Dorset is a perfect example. This exceptional oak frame home, positioned with sweeping countryside views and overlooking a tranquil lake, showcases the best of British craftsmanship — from the structure itself to the sustainably sourced solid oak flooring laid within it.
Craftsmanship at Its Finest: Dorset Timber Framing
Dorset Timber Framing are renowned for creating oak frame structures that celebrate traditional building methods while enhancing modern living. Their work on this project was nothing short of remarkable. The exposed oak beams, precision joinery, and structural elegance provided the perfect architectural canvas for our wide-board British oak flooring.
The synergy between their oak frame and our locally grown timber flooring created a natural harmony throughout the home. Seeing our Heritage Oak boards installed in a structure that shares the same values — heritage craft, sustainability, and a deep respect for British timber — felt especially meaningful.
Solid Oak Flooring Grown and Crafted in Britain
For this project, Coppice & Crown supplied our signature solid wide-board British oak flooring, grown, sourced, and milled here in the UK. With board widths up to 350mm, the flooring introduces warmth, texture, and the authentic “perfectly imperfect” beauty that defines our work.
As sunlight moved across the space, the grain patterns and natural tone variations of the boards were illuminated against the oak frame. The result is a home where every detail feels connected, timeless, and crafted with intention.
A Home Immersed in Dorset’s Natural Beauty
What sets this Dorset project apart is not only the collaboration with Dorset Timber Framing, but the environment the home sits within. With panoramic countryside vistas and peaceful lake views, the setting feels almost cinematic. Inside the oak frame, expansive glazing frames these views as living pieces of art — trees mirrored in still water, sweeping fields, and ever-changing skies.
The solid oak flooring acts as the grounding element, gently tying the interior to the landscape beyond. It brings natural warmth underfoot and will age beautifully as the home continues to settle into its surroundings.
A Collaboration Rooted in Craft, Sustainability, and British Timber
Working alongside Dorset Timber Framing was an absolute pleasure. Their dedication to traditional craftsmanship mirrors our own ethos at Coppice & Crown. Together, we created a home that celebrates the richness of British woodlands and the value of local makers.
This project is a testament to what happens when sustainably grown British timber, skilled craftspeople, and an inspiring location come together. We are honoured that our solid oak flooring forms part of such a thoughtful and beautifully executed build.
